So... what actually happened to SolidRoots?
Fair question.
We started this company in 2017 knowing basically nothing about the toy and game industry. A few years later, one of the biggest toy and game companies in the world bought us. That sentence still sounds a little ridiculous.
Suddenly, we went from figuring things out around our kitchen table to getting an education in how a global toy company actually works. Some of it was incredible. Some of it was hard. All of it taught us something. And eventually, our time there ended.
The strange gift of going away is that sometimes you come home knowing exactly what you missed. We missed building. We missed being scrappy. We missed talking directly to customers. We missed weird ideas that didn't need to survive twelve meetings before someone was allowed to try them. We missed creators. We missed our people. Mostly, we missed SolidRoots. So we brought it home.
We're not the same company that left. We're more experienced, a little less naïve and probably harder to impress. But we're also much clearer about what matters.
Turns out, knowing how the big guys do it is incredibly useful when you've decided you'd still rather be you.
